New Wembley Jacket Tribute to 56
- Updated: February 10, 2013
Ok, I will confess, being 36 year old (I had to think twice about my age, either I am losing my marbles or by that age people tend to have to think hard when remembering their own age), it doesn’t exactly put me in the best place to judge fashion, but in my mind I am still certain I know fashion when I see it. The new Wembley fire memorial tracksuit top, sorry “jacket”, in my humble opinion is probably the best looking bit of Bradford City clothing I have ever seen.
After all the problems with kits for Wembley, it would seem that having Nike as a kit supplier does have some benefits and I don’t think any other suppliers, with maybe the exception of Adidas, would be able to provide us with something so good looking. Besides the swoosh logo always has some added value to it.
The price of £49.99 does sound a bit expensive, but on the other hand I am not a chav and am no longer familiar with the price of a tracksuit top, or jacket or whatever you want to call it. But regardless of that I still think it is something well worth buying and caring for as if it were a new born child. As soon as I saw it I was picturing myself wearing it at Wembley, hopefully my ever growing belly will be disguised and it will not show and spoil the whole look. My god, it must be good, because I am starting to sound like a woman. Does this make my arse look fat? No it’s all the fucking burgers you eat, although my problem is pizza’s not burgers and I would not even go into McDonald’s to have a piss let alone eat a burger when you never knew whether you are eating cow or a Grand National Winner.
I can hardly complain about what is in my food when I shop at Tesco and choose to eat meat feast pizza’s, god only knows what meat is used in them.
Anyway I digress. The tracksuit jacket type thinggy is black, or is it dark blue? I think my eyes are going as well. Anyway it has the Bradford City crest is embroidered on it and has the all important Capital One Cup Final blurb embroidered under it. But unusually for a football kit, or sportswear more accurately (Question. Why are the majority of tracksuit wearers the least sporty?) it has 56 embroidered on the opposite side to the crest, along with the words “always with us”. If you need me to tell you the significance of the 56, maybe you should be waiting until the Bradford City supporters have bought their Wembley tickets before buying yours. To add to the whole look of it, above the 56 is the Nike swoosh. How good is that eh!
The design of the tracksuit top jacket it’s self has some really nice touches, with some white stripes (or hoops) at the bottom. I think that is the bit that really does it for me in terms of the fashion element, and makes it more casual wear (not in a football hooligan meaning of the words) than sportswear. However that will not stop me wearing it for the Walk To York I am taking part in on the following Saturday for the Burns Unit with Bantamstrek.
All in all I am just disappointed that my birthday has been and gone, so I will have to dig into my own pockets to get it. But what the hell, it is a historical match and I want to look good for any photo’s this time around because if it wasn’t for the joys of Photoshop, I would still have a big horrible spot on my head on the 96 photos. Sadly I cannot change my hair, I had a Gazza haircut, one of those horrible styles that can still be seen almost daily on Jeremy Kyle.
One question is whether the actual Bradford City shirts worn on the day will have the same embroidery on it. I am not sure what the situation is with that but as soon as I find anything out I will let you know. Anyway the tracksuit tops can be bought at the Bradford City shop next week, but you can pre-order your Bradford City jacket online by following this link.
But for £49.99 I think it is well worth buying, after all it is something any City fan would treasure forever and I am just pleased that we have some decent sportswear like that on sale.

I like it but I don’t see why we needed to get to wembley to have something for the 56 should do something other than wembley stuff in memory of them

Mines on order as the 10% going to the burns unit is too good to miss & should be more, would like to ask Mr Walker why he thinks it’s so ‘bloody awful’ though? I would guess with a comment like that about something that is so dear to the fans & families of Bradford’s heart’s, needs to be careful what he is saying! A public hanging down @ V.P might be in order!

Listen ST.. theres no one more passionate about that tragic day than me(I penned THAT poem).. but there is no need to turn what is a celebration of a momentous historic achievement into another memorial.. we’re not Liverpool.. We remember on the anniversary each year in a dignified way. We should go to Wembley to sing and dance and cheer our heroes not turn the event into a wake. We won’t be alone.. they will be there celebrating with us. We don’t need an overpriced crappy shirt that Nike are making vast profits off.. You buy one if you want but the question was asked and I gave my reply so don’t come back with your BS.

May 11 ’85 is etched upon my mind
A dream became a nightmare and turned happiness to fear
The day I left my soul behind
But could not shed a tear.
The sweet perfume of victory became the stench of death
And whilst my heart beats soundly I never will forget
From wisp of smoke to no more breath
It haunts me ever yet.
I came to praise my heroes out on the field of play
I came to dance and sing and shout, to hold my head up high
I came to take the pleasures of the day
I didn’t come to die.
The newsreel of my memory plays a matinee
A reprise of hurt and sadness, of deep remorse and ire
That I could not help in any way
The victims of the fire.
I saw the anguish and the pain pervade the burning stand
I saw the reaper laughing beneath the crimson sky
And through the flames that panic fanned,
I saw an angel cry.
Rest in peace you Bantams, rest in peace you Imps
Two cities joined in pain and grief, your memory ever cherished
The game you loved is different since
The fateful day it perished.
We grieve as one these years gone by and though it can be fraught
We’ll close our eyes and bow our heads, so glad to be alive
We’re all alone with just one thought
May 11 ’85.
