About Bradford City WFC
- Updated: May 17, 2012
Firstly thanks to Rich for giving us an airing on the site, hopefully we can introduce ourselves and explain a bit about women’s football to you all.
Bradford City Women’s Football Club welcomes players of all ages and abilities. Our success is not just about winning football matches, it’s about people and bringing fitness, fun and friendship to all members. Our club is every bit as important as our successes on the football field.
Women’s football has a long history however it has only really taken off in the past 20 years. The FA actually banned women’s football for 40 years when it threatened to rival the men’s game – a women’s game at Goodison Park in 1920 attracted a crowd of 53,000!
Now-a-days, the FA have recently established a professional 8-team league which runs through the summer. The FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL) is equivalent to the men’s Premier League and is soon to be expanded further.
We sit at step 4 of the Women’s football pyramid (the same as the men’s team) in the Northern Combination League and narrowly missed out this season on promotion to the Northern Premier League.
We’re looking for players for the new season so if anyone is interested in playing, or knows someone who is, then please get in touch through our website.
